The deadline for submitting deposits for the 2024 Presidential Election concluded at 12 noon today (August 14). On the final day alone, four candidates placed their deposits, bringing the total number of confirmed candidates to 40.
The process of placing deposits began on July 26 and ended today at noon. With the deposit phase now closed, the next significant step in the election timeline is the acceptance of nominations, which is set to take place tomorrow (August 15) between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
In a related development, the Election Commission of Sri Lanka has reported that a total of 42 complaints have been lodged within the last 24 hours concerning the 2024 Presidential Election. Among these, 37 complaints pertain to violations of election laws, while the remaining three are categorized under other issues.
The National Election Complaint Management Centre received 20 of these complaints, with the remaining 22 directed to the District Election Complaint Management Centre.
