Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has requested the government of Sri Lanka to facilitate permanent residence from Sri Lanka, for senior citizens of Maldives.
This was done during a meeting the Maldivian foreign minister held with the Minister of Public Security of Sri Lanka, Tiran Alles as part of his recent official visit to the neighboring country.
The meeting was held at the Public Security Ministry of Sri Lanka.
Taking to social media platform ‘X’ following the meeting, FM Zameer described it to have been a very productive one, where he expressed gratitude to the Sri Lankan minister for his commitment to resolve the visa challenges facing Maldivians due to the recent changes to Sri Lanka’s visa policy.
The meeting saw FM Zameer stressing that a lot of senior Maldivian citizens wish to relocate to Sri Lanka, with which the government of Maldives wishes to request the Sri Lankan government to facilitate arrangements to ensure they’re able to acquire permanent residence in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan media outlets have reported that the two ministers also discussed the political situation in the two countries.
FM Zameer departed from Velana International Airport (VIA) on June 3.
Upon touching down at Colombo, Sri Lanka, he was received by the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Tharaka Balasuriya.
His visit came upon the official invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka M.U.M. Ali Sabry.
