President Ranil Wickremesinghe has decided to relocate Kolonnawa city to higher ground within the same area. Hospitals, schools, houses, and shopping complexes currently in low-lying areas will be moved to higher ground under the new city plan.
Suitable lands have been identified, and laws will be introduced to prohibit unauthorized constructions. Additionally, a flood control system for the Kelani River valley will be developed as part of this plan.
The President’s Chief of Staff, Sagala Ratnayaka, and Parliamentarians Sarath Weerasekera and Premnath C. Dolawatta also participated in these discussions.
