The Government Family Health Services Association reports that the use of substandard soaps has led to various skin allergies in babies.
Priyangani Susangika, the association’s treasurer, noted that some parents are currently using these inferior soaps on their babies, with the adverse effects expected to manifest in the future.
She urged parents to choose baby soaps approved by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI).
“Baby skin is very sensitive. The harmful effects of substandard soap may not be immediately visible but will appear over time. Therefore, parents should be very careful when selecting soap,” she said.
