Former Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe has pointed fingers at Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials for the disappointing display of the national men’s cricket team in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Addressing the media, Ranasinghe refrained from blaming the players, emphasizing their talent and potential. Instead, he asserted that accountability lies with the cricket board, emphasizing that effective management is crucial for the development of the sport.
Ranasinghe lamented the missed opportunity for improvement, suggesting that if the Cabinet-appointed committee had acted promptly after his removal, Sri Lanka could have avoided their current predicament.
He stressed the importance of reform, suggesting that the removal of corrupt officials and potential suspension of the cricket board should not hinder the team’s progress. However, he expressed concern that financial interests often overshadow efforts to enhance cricket’s standards.
The former Sports Minister underscored the necessity of a new Sports Law to address the systemic issues plaguing cricket in Sri Lanka.”
