A police inspector from Mahabage Police has been arrested by the Commission of Inquiry on allegations of accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000. The arrest follows a complaint lodged by a resident of Palliyawatta, Wattala.
According to reports, the inspector allegedly demanded the bribe from the complainant to avoid court proceedings related to two bounced cheques. The suspect also promised to facilitate a settlement for the bounced cheque amounts in installments.
The arrested police inspector is scheduled to appear before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
