MP Dayasiri Jayasekara assumed duties as the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) in front of the party headquarters, asserting his claim to the position.
Jayasekara undertook his duties outside the headquarters after being barred from entering the building by police.
Tension arose at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Headquarters on Darley Road in Colombo 10 following Jayasekara’s arrival this morning (05).
Jayasekara contends that he remains the rightful General Secretary of the party, citing an interim order issued by the Colombo District Court last week. The order restrains the SLFP from expelling him from party membership and removing him from the General Secretary role.
