Carlos Alcaraz has magnificently defended his Wimbledon title by beating Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (4) to win the men’s singles final.
The Spaniard becomes just the sixth man in the Open era to win Roland Garros and Wimbledon back to back and now with four grand slam titles at the age of just 21, Alcaraz is well on his way to being another great of the game.
Djokovic had been looking to tie Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon titles, become the oldest slam winner in the Open era and move clear of Margaret Court on 25 grand slam wins but was unable to compete with Alcaraz’s impressive serve, power and athleticism.
Alcaraz clinched a break of serve in a marathon first game lasting 14 minutes. He backed that up with a comfortable hold including a 136mph serve, his fastest of the Championships, and broke again for 4-1 when Djokovic double-faulted. Alcaraz wrapped up the set 6-2 in 41 minutes to take early control of his second Wimbledon final.
