Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne, the leader of the New Sama Samaja Party, has passed away at the age of 81.
Born on March 8, 1943, in Lunugala, he began his education at Ananda College in Mathugama and completed his secondary education at Ananda Vidyalaya in Colombo.
Dr. Karunaratne excelled academically, earning a first-class pass in Electrical Engineering. He was awarded a Commonwealth scholarship to study at Cambridge University, where he obtained his PhD in 1970.
Upon returning to Sri Lanka, he embarked on an academic career and became a prominent activist in left-wing politics.
