An open warrant to arrest and produce in court Puttalam District Parliamentarian Ali Sabri Raheem was issued by Puttalam Addl, District Judge and Magistrate Ayona Wimalaratne in connection with a case against filed against him by the Kalpitiyia police on a complaint received from a Non-Governmental Organisation in Kalpitiya. The arrest warrant was issued at the Kalpitiya Circuit Magistrate’s Court.
The suspect Parliamentarian had failed to be present in court when the case was taken up on July 08 and on two previous dates no lawyer had appeared for him.
The Kalpitiya police hade filed action against the suspect parliamentarian on charges of unlawful entry into a building belonging to a NGO and causing damage to the property. The magistrate held that parliamentarians, are bound to appear in court just as other citizens
The judge ordered the parliamentarian to immediately hand over the keys of the building to officials of the NGO.
The case was postponed for July 22.
