Starting tonight, canteens and restaurants across the island will lower their food prices, as pledged by the All Island Canteen and Restaurant Owners’ Association (AICROA) in response to the recent reduction in electricity tariffs.
Harshana Rukshan, President of AICROA, informed the Daily Mirror that the price of popular dishes such as rice and curry, fried rice, and kottu will be reduced by Rs. 25. Additionally, the cost of short eats, paratha, and egg roti will drop by Rs. 10, while a cup of plain tea will be reduced by Rs. 5.
The association urges customers to report to the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) if these new prices are not honored or displayed.
Furthermore, AICROA has called on the government to impose price controls on Kiri Samba rice, Samba rice, eggs, and chicken. If these controls are implemented, the association promises to reduce prices by an additional 25 percent for consumers.
