Former Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra, sentenced to a three-year jail term in a 2015 abduction case, was granted bail by the Colombo High Court today pending appeal.
Judge Amal Ranaraja ordered Premachandra’s release on a cash bail of Rs. 50,000, with two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each. The court also imposed a travel ban on her.
Premachandra had filed an appeal challenging her conviction and sentence on 18 counts, including conspiracy, aiding abduction, and assault of victim Amila Priyankara in Dematagoda.
President’s Counsel Nalinda Indatissa represented Premachandra, while Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara appeared for the Attorney General.
